I am writing this post on an iPhone. And the iPhone is mine, and ohh, it is so very shiny and it has that new sexy technology smell and dear gods it took an act of supreme will not to lick the thing fresh out of the box because it is my shiny, shiny new iPhone, so step the back up, Peaches. Ahem. I named it El-ahrairah, but I'm thinking Rabscuttle might be more apropos.

It comes especially handy on a day like today, when I'd otherwise be forced to spend my time counting neurons as they atrophy one by one. I'm nearing the end of my temp gig, which means today is a short work day to begin with, and even so there's zilch to do. A few more days next week and I'll be plunged again into days spent sleeping, hangining in places with the word "Square" in them, and worrying about incipient poverty. Luckily I have a few acquired skills that may stretch this job a day or two, but that's neither here nor there. I like getting a paycheck; I just don't like getting it here.

But! iPhone! Accepting app suggestions! Preferably free ones

I know nothing about apps, but.... congrats?

And I know the ending of a temp job feeling, and can empathize. Although I highly recommend NOT sleeping all day, because it makes the first few days of the new job harder.

Disc Drivin' -- it's free (ad-supported) or a few bucks if you don't want ads. It's basically Pitchcar. And you can play online (asynchronously), so you can play against me and [livejournal.com profile] ckd. The iPhone version of Carcassonne is also awesome (and allows online play) but is $10.

Angry Birds has both free and paid versions. I think the pay versions are still worth the money, but grabbing the free one first to try the game just makes sense.

If you like action games, Gun Bros is surprisingly addictive (and free).

Frotz is a free Interactive Fiction app.

The free DominionKD app is the one CKD uses to select cards for playing Dominion.

For non-game stuff, there are the obvious ereaders (Kindle, iBooks, etc), the Adult Swim and ABC Player apps for free TV shows, and there are a dozen or so competing note-taking apps.

Angry Birds is totally worth the paid version.

I like the Flickr and IMDb apps.

Also, for the only $.99 that Angry Birds costs on the iPhone, they keep updating it with new levels. It's seriously about as good a deal as you'll find.

That said, the levels in Angry Birds Free are NOT in regular Angry Birds, so get that, too.

And Angry Birds Seasons is a separate but equally fun game.

I vote for "Inle," because like the Black Rabbit, it will take you to places dark and light. ;)

But yay for iPhone! I love mine. I am addicted to the Bejweled App, but I think it's pricey now. (I got it when it was .99)

If you like Euro card games, check out the apps my husband wrote (listed here), though I'm afraid they are not free.

That app that lets you make lightsaber noises as you swish your phone around.

And...

The MBTA has an app that tells you, in real time, when the buses are actually going to arrive. You can find it by tracing through links on MBTA.com. Get this app running, and you will be the sexiest man at the bus stop.

(Well, you already are. But it'll be even more obvious.)
