A wake in motion
Dec. 23rd, 2011 08:56 amFor those who haven't heard,
figmentj's father passed away this past Saturday. There was some warning that it was going to happen, but not nearly enough. She's bearing it well, all told, but there have been some understandably rough moments along the way.
Because her father lived with her stepmother in Texas, the plan is to take a post-Christmas road trip there from Boston to honor him, as he was a traveler and an adventurer of the most joyous sort. A PayPal donation button has been set up to help cover gas money and incidental travel expenses. To quote
figmentj's post, "...I want to be very clear about its purpose. This is not an emergency that I'm desperately asking for help with. I can figure out how to go on my own. This just might make it a little easier, and lower stress, and I thought maybe some people would like to do something. Do not feel obligated or guilty about this. That is not what I want. If you would like to kick something in as a memorial of my dad or because you love me or because it's Christmas and you feel charitable, wonderful. But please do not do it if it creates hardship for you, or if it's not completely freely given with love and joy. If by some chance I end up with too much money for the trip, which I certainly do not expect, I'll donate the overage to the Alzheimer's Association."
If you're able and inclined to contribute, or wish to pimp this out in your own journal, you can find the relevant post at this link. Thanks.
