So, like, omigod people, it's totally like...wow.

I'm struggling to find interesting ways to say "The house concert last night went awesomely," but seem to be coming up empty. We had a small audience on site and another handful online, which felt about right for my first time out of the gate. (It was determined that it wasn't my first full solo set ever, but it was the first in about two decades—you'd have to go back to the 1991 Red Herring Folk Festival in Urbana, Illinois to catch my previous one.) I was surprised by how nervous I wasn't during the show, which is a good sign for my continued waffly bid for Rock Stardom. That's not to say that nerves didn't enter into it at all; the first few numbers started out pretty shaky, and I had a bad habit of forgetting words and chords at inopportune moments, largely the result of not enough rehearsal, which is my own dumb fault. But the flubs didn't matter, and the hesitancy gradually faded, and I remembered that I actually have a voice, and...by gods, it felt good.

The thing that blew me away, though? There were a couple of people there whom I've only met through the context of the Heather Dale show I opened for, and who bought the CD and knew the words. I...I have fans. How the screaming blue Saxon hell did that happen?

So thank you again to everyone who was there ([livejournal.com profile] figmentj, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] yendi, [livejournal.com profile] maverick_weirdo, [livejournal.com profile] thesilentpoet, don't-think-she-has-an-LJ Kate, and don't-know-if-he-has-an-LJ Jeff), to everyone who watched from home, and to everyone who couldn't make it but sent kind and encouraging words my way. You make this possible, you make this worthwhile, you make me happy. (If you didn't catch the live stream, the videos have been posted over on my shrine of shameless self-whoring website. They're even better than the last one—I actually pick up my head occasionally!)

And for those of you what cares about such things, here's the full set list from the show:

Eclipse
I'm the Guy at the Con (Who's Never Seen Lord of the Rings)
Some of Us Bridesmaids
The Back of Your Head
One By One
Carnival Down
Strowler's Song

The Way Things Go
Spin the Bottle
Grendel's Mother *
Love in Zero G
Frost
Step It Out, Mary
Cape Spear
88 Lines About 44 Fangirls

* a last-minute-added Mountain Goats cover, with [livejournal.com profile] figmentj singing lead and me doing (read: attempting) harmony. Went really well, considering we'd never rehearsed it in that key before. She sounded amazing.)

Just finishing up watching part 2 of the recording as I type this. :) (It's on 88 Lines right now).

So awesome! ♥

After Arisia, when things are calmed down, drop me a line, ok? Nothing serious or urgent.

PS, glad to hear you changed the name of fangirl #44. ;)

Just reading the set list caused "Step It Out, Mary" to become stuck in my head. Very catchy tune, that one. (Why yes, I have been listening to your album a fair bit since I got it.)

Also, I am very glad to see Spin the Bottle included in that list... it has always been a favorite of mine.

Wish I was closer :)

Wow . . . I'm impressed with how much more comfortable you look in front of an audience. I've listened to the first part, flicking back and forth to it while doing other things, but the thing that struck me the most was your comfort level.

Watching you open for Heather Dale, it was Very Apparent that you were nervous. Excited, but nervous, unsure, and struggling to beat down your self-doubts. You've got a few dead-giveaway tells, and they were out and about that evening.

This time? Body language and voice said that you were far more at ease. I'm proud of you for pushing past the discomfort of opening for Heather Dale and rising to the challenge of a solo show. Your confidence made this a more enjoyable performance (on both ends of the experience, I'm sure!) and I look forward to seeing you continue to grow. :)

You know that made me squee my face off. Especially considering how many times I listened to that when I was crushing on him from afar.

Was there watching live for second set, had to watch first half later due to glitch issues, but it was worth it! One of these days I might just get to be IN the room instead of connected to it by a whingy bucket o'bolts (mine).

That said:
made of AWESOME! :)
And do keep working on Cape Spear.
