I know, I know, things have been quiet on the music front since the Pi-Con gig and the release of Opposable Thumbs back in August. That silence, however, has been purely from a public standpoint—behind the scenes there are Things and Stuff (sometimes simultaneously!) brewing away. I come today bearing news and news and oh my gracious did I mention the news, along with ways you can help.

1) First off, the big thing of immediacy: Adam Fromm House Concert! I'll be playing at the Sovereign Nation of Gojirawitziev (a.k.a. the home of [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] yendi and [livejournal.com profile] sindrian) in Watertown, MA on Friday, February 22. Doors open at 7:30, show starts at 8, and much merriment shall ensue, including a few new songs I've written over the past few months and maybe one or two old ones that have never/almost never been heard. You can check out the event page here, or contact me directly for details. And if you do plan on attend, do let me know!

2) The other Big News that I'm breathless with excitement about is that the oft-threatened musical collaboration between me and the amazing [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl is now officially a go! During Arisia (note to relatives: it's a scifi/fantasy convention), in addition to continuing the rehearsing we've been doing together on and off for ages now, we laid down some initial tracks to one of her songs, a slinky little number that'll knock your proverbial socks off, and once we finish up we'll be releasing it on Bandcamp for purchase, followed by more tracks and actual performance as a capital-B Band, gods willing and the creek don't rise. Watch this space for future details!

3) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kradical and Metafilter, it seems that "88 Lines About 44 Fangirls" has gone viral yet again. I swear, that song is like the mob: every time I think I'm out, it drags me back in.

Now comes your part. How can you help this struggling-but-promising-say-the-critics music career take flight? So glad you asked:

1) Host a house concert. My main focus for now is to make performing more than a once in a while operation. This means finding venues that will actually have me, which is not always easy. House concerts have served me well thus far, and I find them more than comfortable and suited to what I do. If you live in a space big enough to house a guy with a guitar and a smattering of people watching him, and would like to host a future house concert, please contact me so we can toss around some details. (Due to travel limitations, venues in the Northeast are a lot more accessible for me right now, but even if you're far-flung for me, drop me a line.)

2) Suggest other possible venues. The above is not to say that I wouldn't happily welcome an actual public performance venue with, like, a stage. If you know of a place (or better, if there's a place where you have some influence), send me the specifics of where, what type of establishment, how big, and who to contact.

3) Get it on the air. I've been tickled to the point of giddy that [livejournal.com profile] weyrdbird has been playing my songs on her radio show on WEFT Champaign, Illinois. Anyone know of any other stations and/or DJs that might give me a whirl?

4) Link to me. A bunch of people have already been asking when my next album's coming out. My solo career plan at the moment (where music with Catt is concerned, the future's wide open) is to write and expand my listener base for the next year, then set up a Kickstarter to fund some actual studio time and a professional CD pressing. That can't happen, though, if no one knows who I am. So if you're in a position to talk up my stuff, either via word of mouth, word of blog, or other link to my main webpage or my Bandcamp site, it would help immeasurably.

5) Buy my music! The Elmsley Count and Opposable Thumbs are both available for sale through Bandcamp. Yes, you'll be funding my shameful Pepsi Throwback habit, but you'll also help keep the music coming in the approaching months and years. To those who have already supported me by purchasing my stuff, I can't thank you enough; if you haven't, please consider picking up one or both albums, or even just a song or two, over here.

And finally, I want to thank all of you who've supported me, listened, encouraged and critiqued and cheered me on, bought CDs and attended shows and put Official Adam Fromm Stickers on personal possessions, given me places to play and reasons to do so. This whole quixotic journey of mine would have died by day 3 if it weren't for the lot of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for making this so worthwhile.

So, like, omigod people, it's totally like...wow.

I'm struggling to find interesting ways to say "The house concert last night went awesomely," but seem to be coming up empty. We had a small audience on site and another handful online, which felt about right for my first time out of the gate. (It was determined that it wasn't my first full solo set ever, but it was the first in about two decades—you'd have to go back to the 1991 Red Herring Folk Festival in Urbana, Illinois to catch my previous one.) I was surprised by how nervous I wasn't during the show, which is a good sign for my continued waffly bid for Rock Stardom. That's not to say that nerves didn't enter into it at all; the first few numbers started out pretty shaky, and I had a bad habit of forgetting words and chords at inopportune moments, largely the result of not enough rehearsal, which is my own dumb fault. But the flubs didn't matter, and the hesitancy gradually faded, and I remembered that I actually have a voice, and...by gods, it felt good.

The thing that blew me away, though? There were a couple of people there whom I've only met through the context of the Heather Dale show I opened for, and who bought the CD and knew the words. I...I have fans. How the screaming blue Saxon hell did that happen?

So thank you again to everyone who was there ([livejournal.com profile] figmentj, [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] yendi, [livejournal.com profile] maverick_weirdo, [livejournal.com profile] thesilentpoet, don't-think-she-has-an-LJ Kate, and don't-know-if-he-has-an-LJ Jeff), to everyone who watched from home, and to everyone who couldn't make it but sent kind and encouraging words my way. You make this possible, you make this worthwhile, you make me happy. (If you didn't catch the live stream, the videos have been posted over on my shrine of shameless self-whoring website. They're even better than the last one—I actually pick up my head occasionally!)

And for those of you what cares about such things, here's the full set list from the show:

Eclipse
I'm the Guy at the Con (Who's Never Seen Lord of the Rings)
Some of Us Bridesmaids
The Back of Your Head
One By One

The Way Things Go
Spin the Bottle
Grendel's Mother *

Step It Out, Mary

* a last-minute-added Mountain Goats cover, with [livejournal.com profile] figmentj singing lead and me doing (read: attempting) harmony. Went really well, considering we'd never rehearsed it in that key before. She sounded amazing.)
