I just chucked some money at LiveJournal to reinstate my paid account, partly in appreciation of the recent upgrades and redesign, partly in recognition that the joint is jumping around here more emphatically than it has been in a while, but mostly to resuscitate my poor, misbegotten userpics collection. Believe me, trying to communicate with the outside world with six random medieval woodcuts you tossed up there back in 2003 feels like trying to fingerpaint Guernica sometimes. Welcome back, Annoyed Susie Derkins!

I've got a question, though, about some of LJ's ancillary proto-features: am I the only one here still using mood icons and the current music field? I keep it up out of habit, but I'm starting to feel like the guy at the concert who's still clapping his hands over his head two minutes after everyone else has stopped, because the lead singer grunted "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR, Y'ALL!" and no one ever said "OKAY, YOU CAN STOP NOW!"

When I post (which is rare rare rare), I use mood icons. I even uploaded a custom mood set! I've rarely ever used current music, even from the beginning of my LJ way back in mumblety. Of course nowadays, my (scant) posting is also mostly done at Dreamwidth and crossposted to LJ. But I read both sites daily.

I do miss my more-than-five icons, but having been out of work for a year and a half plus having moved across the country (to LA!) means that's not funds I have. *grin*

I use mood icons, as do many people on my friends list. I haven't used the current song thing in a long while, I don't think.

Umm..."splashing my chips" sounds like a metaphor for something bathroom-related.

Talk about having one's mind in the gutter!

Oh, and to answer your question: since they re-did the posting page, I often forget about the mood and music fields because they're off to the right rather than below the post field. I got used to reading the page in a straight line and now they're putting things off to the side and OMG I CAN'T ADAPT.

I'd love to reinstate my paid account, but I'm still mad at LJ for screwing up the scrapbook. I doubt it's fixed, and I'm also annoyed that they can't fix basic coding shit (my default is friends-only but when I want to post public I have to post FO then edit, because 'public' isn't an option during the initial post) but they're going to completely upgrade and redesign the site? No. You don't get my money, LJ, because you have piss-poor priorities. Even if I do miss my icons with a Gollum-esque longing.

I find it irrelevant to tell people what I'm listening to. Out of respect for the signal-to-noise ratio, I leave that out.

I always fill out "mood," however, even if it's not particularly relevant. (It's not much noise, I suppose.)
