slipjig3: (plan 9)

So hypothetically speaking, if one were to foment vague plans for a five-title living-room-based mini film festival, and one had already chosen Pump Up the Volume [1990], Singles [1992], Reality Bites [1994], and Empire Records [1995] for four of those five slots, with what film should one fill the final slot with?

[Footnote: My original chosen title came not from a Reality Bites quote, like the one above, but one from Singles: "Somewhere around 25, bizarre becomes immature." As a 44-year-old unrepentant dork who favors the company of the giddy and perverse harlequin-colored freaks of God-fearing society (read: all y'all), I say unto thee, Cameron Crowe, with deepest respect for your directorial talents: *pthpthbthbth*]

I ran a lot of movies through my head. I figured you were aiming for 90s-era Gen-X as a theme. Also , I really want to watch this movie marathon!

Interesting. I was originally locked on a 90's thing, but there's no reason I can't dip back into late 80's as well. Hmm....

Hahahaha!

My first thought was /Heathers/, then I thought, Hmmm. Maybe? Maybe something else . . .

Oh! /Clerks/!

Great minds, &c.

Hee! Indeed. I do count great minds among my nearest and dearest, after all.

Heathers, Chasing Amy, or Keeping the Faith.

Chasing Amy, definitely in contention. What's your reasoning behind Keeping the Faith? (I really need to see it in its entirety at some point; I have a few cable-channel-flipping drive-bys at best.)

Well, first off, I really enjoyed it, and think you would, too. It continues the quirky rom-com theme. A little more continuity with Ben Stiller, and the film having been directed by Ed Norton, who stars in it. The chemistry between them and Jenna Elfman is great, too. Also? Good writing. My appreciation for movies is definitely driven by witty dialogue, and this one's got it in spades.

Clueless or Tank Girl, since I've decided that you're clearly going with "best soundtracks of the early '90s" as a theme. TG has a better soundtrack, but Clueless probably fits in better thematically.

It's fascinating to see others' takes on what the connecting thread is. I was working a "90's-era Gen-X pop culture hyperfocus" sort of thing, which I guess makes for an awesome soundtrack simply by association. Admittedly, Pump Up the Volume the weak link on that count (aside from the fact that radio is involved), but I'll roll with it regardless.

I read into it the 90's-era Gen-X hyperfocus.

Heathers, yes, or Hackers if you're going by juicier soundtracks.

See above. I strongly suspect that the real theme behind this not-actually-going-to-happen-probably film fest is Stuff That Adam Thinks Share a Common Spiritual Tie That He Can't Actually Articulate But Golly the Nineties Were Fun, Weren't They? (Also, dutifully adding Hackers to my list of films I really ought to have seen by now but haven't.)

OHH! Perfect! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! I might end up extending it to six films to add Clerks, but High Fidelity is the ideal #5. Thanks!

Just because I am perusing your LJ in search of more stories, I have to add that I was about to reply with Clerks, Chasing Amy, or Heathers, but all your friends beat me to it!
