Catch-up Post #1: Recording
Sep. 19th, 2003 10:40 pmI did indeed record some music on Wednesday, under the capable production of the inimitable Mr. Stowhas. Ten songs, nine original and one traditional, laid down in about four hours. (Would've been eleven songs if I hadn't decided to scrap one; would've been less time if I didn't need 4,978 goddamn retakes on "Frost...") Now that I've heard how I sound for the first time in well over a decade, I've learned a few things about my musical skills:
1) I have vocal pitch problems out the proverbial wang-dang-doodle. The only reason I wasn't flat the whole time I was in front of the mike was because occasionally I'd spazz out and go sharp.
2) When I'm nervous, my guitar playing gets all stiff and plinky.
3) My overall sense of rhythm needs desperate help.
4) I sincerely wish my voice had a Melodrama Knob I could turn down about 6 notches.
5) The next time I want to sit down and write a song, I want at least a few of you to shake me by my shoulder and holler, "CHEER UP, ADAM!"
Don't get me wrong: I'm glad I did it. I had a good time (especially once I'd relaxed a bit), and I'm not totally displeased with the results. It's just that I'm realizing that I have no idea how I sound most of the time, and that how I do sound isn't always fit for human exposure. *sigh* Oh, well. Good thing it's just a hobby.
I'm aware that this list will mean nothing to anyone else, but for my own reference, here's the official track listing:
1) No Revelation
2) Some of Us Bridesmaids
3) Untitled
4) The Back of Your Head
5) Drowning as Fast as I Can
6) Watch You Fall
7) Bedsheets
8) Boys of Bedlam
9) Fade
10) Frost
I don't have the final recording in my hands yet. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to go even semi-public with any of it. It's so...naked, y'know?
