slipjig3: (the dude abides)
1)  My health insurance lapsed recently, but they've had my renewal paperwork for five or six weeks. An attempt to call and get the story led to a half-hour on hold, followed by a recording that said, "We're sorry, the office is unexpectedly closed. Please try again tomorrow." I'm translating this in my head as "Shit! He's coming! Everybody hide!"

2)  Boy, drivers are cranky these days.

3)  This past weekend, [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl and I got together for a Murder Ballads work weekend to try and get together the last of the Indiegogo perks. We're juuuuust about there, having written up all of the packaging labels (both to and from) by hand, handwriting thank you cards, and jamming in laminated bookmarks and sticks and CDs and T-shirts; all that's left is lithographs for those who are receiving them and hauling the whole mess out to the post office. With our tongues still coated in envelope glue, we then had ourselves a grand old last-minute song circle with [livejournal.com profile] aquila_dominus, [livejournal.com profile] blimix, [livejournal.com profile] light_in_motion, and a handful of folks without LJ handles that I'm aware of. (We debuted a couple of new ones, "Spider and Wasp" and "Fireside," and did an arse-punting run of "White Stag," which is poised to become our new crowd favorite.)

4) The other thing Catt and I did this weekend: made a birthday video for the divine Miss S.J. Tucker. We're downright smug about it.

As threatened promised, [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl and I finally finished the recording phase of Pretty in Scarlet a week and a half ago, and dear gods, do we love what we're already hearing. Cannot wait to get this thing on the streets, people. We're currently entering into the mixing phase, and then it's mastering, and then pressing discs, and then we're in same-thing-we-do-every-night-Pinky_we-conquer-the-world territory.

But first, I've got two things to announce, and you're gonna want to sit down for these:

1) The Guest Artists
We've been hinting pretty hard all year that we've got some terrific musicians joining us on this album and contributing their amazing talents, all the while remaining tight-lipped as to names (and hemorrhaging internally at times trying not to shout it into bullhorns). But now, only a few months out from our due date (November 18, and mark your calendars), we simply can't keep the list to ourselves any longer:We're so grateful to all of them for their time and their music and for coming along on this sometimes peculiar journey of ours. I've got a few very rough mixes of some of the tracks they've contributed to which I sometimes listen to at work, and every time I get this little bubble of squee in my chest and the thought, "...wow...I get to be part of that...." It's as awesome as you think it is, I assure you.

2) The Crowdfunding Campaign
No less exciting, this: we've started an Indiegogo campaign to get Pretty in Scarlet off and running. This is our opportunity to finish the album, pay the people we owe for their time and services, press it to CD now instead of vague-later, and order the gear and the merch we'll need to take this project to the next level. Meanwhile, it's your opportunity to get some cool stuff: T-shirts, stickers, artwork, copies of the CD and advance downloads of the album in question. Then there's the high-end goodies: house concerts, audio collages made to order, and the Dare, where we cover and record any song your little heart desires, no matter how much you and we will both regret it.

Watch the promo video below (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] rain_herself), then check out our Indiegogo page to find out how you can help. (We're already trending!) And if you can, link your friends to us and spread the word. Thank you as always for your time, love and support, and stay tuned. You're not gonna want to miss any of what's coming.
