That vertical thing? Yeah, not so much

Dear Adam,
I need to have a word about your little plan to get more exercise by always taking the stairs rather than the escalator when exiting the T station. I'm not saying it's a bad plan—on the contrary, it seems to be quite effective. I'm just saying that maybe your plan ought to include a Porter Square exemption. Just a thought.
Yours in pain from the knee down,
Adam

Date: 2010-09-25 12:28 pm (UTC)Some background. I'm almost 48 and carrying some-but-not-excessive-extra-poundage. My semi-daughter is 28, average height, average weight, has a job where she's on her feet all day. You'd think that she'd be in better shape than me.
Wrong. I broke my leg seven years ago and have been terrified of ending up in a wheelchair ever since, so I walk everywhere and I climb stairs. I don't take the Porter Square stairs ***EVERY*** time I come into Boston, but some impish part of me needed to show off to Crystal that day about her complaints that she was "getting old".

At least on the regular steps you can stop to cower and cry.
Or just avoid Porter Square T.
